Road Trip! England to France

Following the 20 hr + bus ride between Chamonix and London earlier in June, I decided I needed to find a much more fun way of traveling, that doesn’t involve the costs or pollution of flying.......you all know the answer...........CARPOOLING....Yeah!

A great new website has been set up by an English group called Mountain Ride Share. It is primarily based in Europe but a Northern American group is also being set up. Check it out on:

After much research and numerous adds, 3 days before I had planned to leave London for France, the excellent Rhi appeared, out of nowhere, offering me a lift to the Alps.

EXCELLENT RHIANNON

We left London and took the ferry from Dover- Dunkerque. The ferry takes 2 hours and costs about 40 pounds.

Driving Suzie the spectacular Swift Suzuki and with all our clothes, skis and food piled in Suzie’s little trunk, we zooomed off to France, unaware of how theory is not always practical. The 8.5 hr journey turned into about a 12 hr trip that included a great night’s stay in a rest stop, where my long, heavy sausage ski bag featured in a great role as my bed.

THE TRAVELLERS AFTER ONE TOO MANY HOURS IN THE CAR

MOUNTAINS!

Safe, happy and full of Beaufort cheese, I was deposited at Albertville train station.
