Freeride de Flaine

Yesterday I competed in my second Freeride comp. It was one of the first of several Freeride World Qualifier's that will take place in Europe this year.

Flaine is located about 40minutes away from Chamonix and it has some amazing freeride terrain.

Unfortunately, due to bad weather the comp venue was changed from a higher, larger face, to a small one-hit-wonder cliff band.

A big challenge faced by most of the competitors was 'disorientation'. It was difficult to find your line from the top flat section of the course, many of the riders got lost and some were so bamboozled that they skied right through the course, missing the major cliff band.

It was a real shame and I was quite frustrated when I lost my line and thinking I was above a large cliff, only to find it was a small drop.......I further dazzled the judges by crashing on the cat track at the end of the course! Go nat! :D

Nonetheless, it was really good experience and I can't wait for the next comp that begins tomorrow, The Stimorol Engadinsnow in St Moritz.

Well done to all the riders that managed to find their way and charged down the course. Despite the smaller venue, there was some real talent----and fearlessness on show!
