It began with the Freeride de Flaine and the next day we were off to St Moritz (via Italy and a long scenic detour) for our next comp The Stimorol Engadinsnow...hosted at Mt Corvatsch.
After arriving the night before the qualifier, my travel buddy, Morgan, cooked up some pasta on his traveling kitchen (with gas on our hotel windowsill)....yum....it is not the most gourmet fare that could be found on the streets of St Moritz but I was content and happy to fall into bed after devouring a whole pot full.
The qualifiers went well. It was my first freeride comp in which I didn't crash and I stomped 3 airs, keeping to my pre-planned line down the face. I was stoked at the end of the run, even though I didn't ski my hardest.
Unfortunately I qualified 9th and only the top 6th went to the finals.......I have to admit I was damn jealous of all the finalist as they got to abseil off a gondala onto the finals face.
I was also quite proud as my Australian soul sister, Hanna Fischer, whp qualified 1st for the finals!.....she also faced her vertigo fears and crossed over shear drops to make it to the final face! yeah girl!
We partied all night after the finals and Morgan, Charlotte (our new Norweigian friend--who has a knack for backfliping on beds) and I made our way to Engelberg (en Suisse) for a night....oh what a day!
Engelberg:
Fresh champagne powder that you could blow off your hands, blue skies and a 2000m descent from the top of the glacier, through a rocky gorge and out into the valley below....
....nonetheless, I am happi to be back in the duck house sipping hot chocolates and attempting (in vain) to keep the place clean.
