Phew---I am as sleepy as a baby wombat and all I want to do it curl up in a little burrow and nap for 3 days............maybe not possible..... I don't have a burrow and I believe I will be driving 7 hrs to get back to Melbourne tonight, leaving Thredbo at around 8pm. ROAD TRIP.
Spanna and I have been zooming around the roads of Victoria and NSW in search of competitions, good breakfast and new ski hills to explore.
First stop: FALLS CREEK for the BIG AIR, where a mighty lot of wind and fog greeted us.
There were highlights.
I got to experience the best of on mountain staff accom. While Anna and the rest of the TBR crew were given free Chiko rolls and T-shirts (available in lemon yellow). I wouldn't advise eating a Chiko roll on a full stomach.
The big air became a rail jam and I decided to take position as team photographer as I didn't want my lovely edges eaten off by the rail.
Team Buller solidly dominated the comp with:
Watkin Mclennan, Riley Lucas and Ollie Immurs taking out the men's and Torie Hamilton-Wilson and Anna Segal taking out the women's!
.....after a scrumptious Swedish breakfast on sunday morning we jumped in our cars and speed off to Jindy.
Next: THREDBO for the Rip Curl Pro Freeride.
Monday morning.
After much rationalising, Zoe Jaboor and I bit the bullet and purchased our $90 lift passes for a day of skiing in the wind.......it wasn't a mistake. Freshies and new terrain can never be a bad move. We checked out the face for the Rip Curl Pro and did some love laps with the lovely ladies Tess and Britta (our mountain guides for the day).
Comp day.
I couldn't believe the weather that thredbo turned on for the qualifiers yesterday.
Blue skies, sun beating down on the fresh snow and a light breeze to make everything seem that little bit more extreme.
The course was primed and ready to go and without a practice run, we were hitting the jumps and cliffs into freshies. oh what a feeling.
It was a two run qualfier to the finals, with the top 4 girls making it into the final. I felt the pressure. Competing against an Olympic ski-X champion, a X games slopestyle champion, a multiple time champion of the Rip Curl Pro, a Mogul World Cup finalist and a Thredbo local.....luckily these ladies were good friends.
I was stoked on both my runs, although the landings weren't amazing, I span for the first time in a freeride comp and I landed all my cliff hits. I was happy to qualify 3rd to Zoe and Anna who both put down sick runs (Anna spinning off both the top and 2nd kicker and Zoe gaping the double stager-YEAH GIRLS)!
.....in saying that I am a little sad that the finals were called off today and the results will most likely stand as is, I was excited about stepping it up for finals......I guess I will have to wait for next year!
Check out the edit from the qualifiers here.
