Grade 5 Ski Free

While it has been great getting back to Australia, it was pretty difficult to leave the mountains of Utah behind.

Luckily, I had a fun project to come back to!

Grade 5 Ski Free is a Victorian government initiative that encourages kids in Grade 5 (10 years old) to get out and play in the mountains. The 5 ski resorts in Victoria have come together to offer Grade 5s a free lifts pass to each of the resorts (Mt Buller, Mt Hotham, Fall Creek, Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain).

In my second week home I was lucky enough to traverse the east-side of Melbourne with Jane Hill to promote the project to Grade 5s near and far.

I would be an awesome teacher!
Having just got home, it was amazing to head out of the center of the city and hang out in the gum trees for a few days. We went to all kinds of schools, some inner-city, some further out and a few tucked away in beautiful areas like Warburton where the scones are numerous and kangaroos roam.

Documenting our progress

Oversized Calculator- I have issues smiling photos- I prefer to look shocked
I was really lucky as a kid because my mum and my older sister loved skiing and my parents were committed to driving 3 hrs each way every weekend to go skiing. Hopefully the Grade 5 Ski Free can be an incentive for kids to at least go and experience the snow and the mountains- something they might not have done otherwise.

EXCITED! Jane and I on our last day of snow-teaching rounds
Big thanks to Tourism Victoria, Grade 5 Ski Free, Ready Set Go and the resorts around Victoria for putting together such a cool project! More Details see here.
