Park City Powder Cats

photos by Rebekah Stevens and Ross Downard

The minute anyone ever mentions cat skiing or heli skiing my instant reaction is- "Can I come?!" Generally it is in jest but I'm always partially serious. Luckily I have friends who understand and will act on my bluff.

So yesterday morning I found myself in a car with Vanessa Aadland, heading up to Park City Powder Cats for a day of catskiing with the Widsix crew. Blue skies, cold temps, awesome people and a cat pimped out with a Ipod hook up- what more can you ask for?

On arrival we were greeted with an delicious spread of bagels, coffee and pretty much anything you could dream of for breakfast. We had a quick briefing with our guides, Megan and Bob and then loaded up!

We cruised down our first run, testing out the snow and then got the party rolling!

One of the coolest parts of the day was the variety of shredders we had. Backcountry skiers, freeriders, telemarkers, ski X competitiors, snowboarders and Bob ( powder mogul-turns extraordinaire).

We ran into a lot of diverse snow conditions but in general the snow was smooth creamy and really fun to float around on.

After lunch we headed out to a newly opened area of the Powder Cat's operation. It was untouched and a nice dreamy run down an open face to a playground of aspens and creek beds. Vanessa and I followed Bob down the creeks to hit up the whopdeedoos on the side.

whopdeedoo! This pretty much sums up the day!

As usual the last few runs of the day were the last, finishing in a powder-filled run through the aspens to our cat ride home. Vanessa and I booked it back to SLC for work and school and finally I got to bed at 12:30am, exhausted and content.

Thanks so much everyone for an amazing day- thanks John for letting me gate crash the party, thanks Vanessa for taking me a long, thanks PCPC for looking after us so well and thanks everyone for having so much fun :D
