Luckily the snow drought has fallen in-sync with my time drought. I am officially working more hours than I sleep and generally have no free time to show for it. But I seriously count myself lucky to be employed, even though juggling work, skiing and working out is always a bit special. At least it's a challenge and a fun one at that!
Including working at Backcountry.com, wording people up on gear, complimentary colors and Australian slang, I have also been coaching the Australian Aerials Development team. A.K.A the Flying Kangaroos or the 'auuhziees'.
These girls were hand picked as gymnasts and over the last 3 or less years they have been taught how to shred, jump and generally be steezy on the mountain.
I will never forget taking them down their first Black Diamond 3 years ago at Mt Buller, Australia. It was wicked.
At the moment we are training at Snowbasin and the Utah Olympic Park jump site. Getting creative with my coaching skills has been necessary as there is only so long you can ski groomers everyday. Nevertheless, the corduroy is fresh every morning and the park is a pretty sweet place to hang out after the blues runs have iced up in the afternoons. Today, I even thought that the accumulated snow under the snow guns had a quite similar to powder. The mind is an amazing thing.
The girls make it awesome, in general they are great to coach- and I am gonna say it- drills can be mad fun. They were so excited that last week that they took 2 laps on the gondola on 1 ski, they were damn wrecked after it but they did it! KEEN.
In between there are walks with the house puppies, awesome days shredding the Bird and Alta with friends on chalky snow and the occasional adventure.
One of these adventures included a moonlit walk up Alta a few days ago just after the full moon with Chris and Ricky (they were pretty stoked as split boarding is the only time they get to hang out at Alta). My photos did not turn out but it happened and it was amazing.
In other news, my new babies just got mounted at Inkline in SLC and I am getting them all ready for my first comp of the season that kicks off in 2 weeks at Moonlight Basin, Montana. 26th-29th of Feb- stay tuned!
KATANAS!- Thanks Volkl~
On a final note to this rambling blog post I just wanted to stop an take a second to send some good vibes out to Sarah Burke who just suffered a huge injury at Park City earlier this week, she is an amazing lady and skier and someone I have always looked up to along with my sister and other ladies of the skiing world- wishing you good health.
